SCTV Submissions Overview
SCTV welcomes submissions of videos and films in all formats and all genres. There are two basic rules about what SCTV accepts: first, a UCSC student must have had a significant role in the production of the film; second, it must be in good taste and in compliance with applicable decency laws. We have safe harbor hours from 10 PM until 6 AM, during which time we may broadcast certain types of graphic material, but there is a limit. Think of the children living in Family Student Housing!
- Step 1: Make a film with a UCSC student
- Step 2: Render your film in MPEG 2 format on a DVD or CD. The file must be sized to 640x480.
- Step 3: Fill out an SCTV submission form
- Step 4: Place the disc into a suitable mailing envelope and drop it into a Campus Mail Service mailbox addressed to the Student Media Press Center. Or bring it directly to the Review Box at the Student Media Press Center. Or drop it in the SCTV Drop Box in the Film Department Advising Office (Communications Building).
- Step 5: Watch your show on SCTV!
Video Format
Click here to download SCTV's settings for Apple Compressor. For more information on compression and how to us Compressor, check out this page. If you not using Compressor, a Standard-Definition DVD for playback works just fine.
Note: Compressing takes a long time!
Submission Form
Note: It takes time to put things on the air! If you have time sensitive material, please submit it at least a week before you want it on! SCTV cannot guarantee that your submission will be aired in a specific timeframe.
Locations
Drop your disc off at SCTV's Press Center locker, located immediately East of the ARCenter. Student publications use the space after hours; the building may be open at strange and unpredictable times, but we recommend submitting during the hours of 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday - Friday.
Or use the white Campus Mail Services boxes, no postage necessary, with this address:
SCTV Submissions
Student Media Press Center
If you need to mail your film to us from an off campus location, use this address:
SCTV Submissions
Student Media Press Center
University of California, Santa Cruz
1156 High St.
Santa Cruz, CA 95064
Make sure to use a sturdy box that won't be crushed at the Campus Mail Services office. Your best bet is to go to the Post Office beneath Baskin Engineering and borrow a high quality USPS Priority Mail box but then stick it to the Man and toss it into the Campus mailbox.
Public Service Announcements and Trade Agreements
SCTV will gladly accept and broadcast public service announcements. Trade agreements with other campus organizations, such as exchanging mutual advertisement space, is also encouraged. Please send us a PSA as a Jpeg to sctv-managers@googlegroups.com identifying it as a PSA. All PSAs are subject to review before being broadcast.
